Your 2025 could look very different with a career change or skills upgrade through Randolph Community College. RCC is now accepting applications for the third cohort of its Industrial Maintenance Technician (IMT) Apprenticeship program. Launched in 2023, this innovative program offers the opportunity to earn an associate degree in Industrial Systems Technology while gaining hands-on, paid experience with local employers.

“This program represents the future of workforce development in our region,” RCC President/CEO Dr. Shah Ardalan said. “By combining classroom education with hands-on experience, we are equipping students with essential skills in industrial systems technology and connecting them with local employers who are eager to invest in their growth. IMT is a testament to our commitment to creating opportunities that lead directly to meaningful, high-demand careers. We are proud to see how it is transforming lives and contributing to the economic vitality of our community.”

Current employers include Energizer, Jowat Corporation, Pexco LLC, Technimark, The Timken Company, and the new Toyota Battery Manufacturing, North Carolina, plant. Hourly wages start at $17 per hour minimum with annual raises and a potential to earn more than $22 per hour minimum after graduation from the IMT program. Many company partners will pay much more than the minimum once you graduate with your associate degree, ApprenticeshipNC certificate, and Journeyworker credential.

Ideal for adults or those set to graduate this school year, the program equips participants with cutting-edge skills in electrical systems, mechanical operations, programmable logic controllers, robotics, and automation, preparing them for a dynamic career in industrial maintenance.

The IMT program puts applicants in the driver’s seat. After the application is submitted online at randolphimt.com, interested candidates will take a basic skills test at RCC. Employers will review the files and applicants may be called for interviews before offers are made in December. Those chosen for the program could start working for the employer before fall classes start in August 2025.
