RCC students participate in annual Disabilities Awareness Day Parade
Randolph Community College Adult Basic Life-Skills Education (ABLE) students march into Bicentennial Park as a part of the 6th Annual Disabilities Awareness Day Parade, held Oct. 18 in downtown Asheboro.
ASHEBORO — Several Randolph Community College Adult Basic Life-Skills Education (ABLE) students joined the nearly 800 participants Friday, Oct. 18, in the 6th Annual Disabilities Awareness Day Parade.
The list of participants included people of all ages and disabilities from eight counties.
Organized by the Randolph County Advisory Council for Disability Awareness and the City of Asheboro, the marchers started at the Asheboro Courier-Tribune and finished with a celebration in Bicentennial Park that included participants parading into the park to “We Are the Champions.”
The parade is a reminder to others to see people suffering from disabilities for who they are, not for their disability.
